After our 3rd filming

This was our 3rd lot of filming! for the first section of the day it took us back to south weald where we had originally filmed for our practice filming. We decided to use our part we had filmed and edited for the 'cha cha cha' part of the song as it worked so well and looked so effective. We both agreed how much we liked it for the section of the song, but we also agreed that it needed to be re-filmed especially as i had had all my hair cut off and would no longer have fit with the video. For the section we wanted to use a different outfit and we had a few possibilities but we wasn't sure but we put this one on and it worked really well and was happy how it looked on camera. The only problems we had was the weather! it had been previously raining quite a lot and made the ground around where we were filming very slippery but also added some fun to the filming, where we had filmed was quite sheltered by all the trees so the ground was okay which was very lucky.

This section was the last part we filmed in the day it was really quick and easy to film so we left it till last. We filmed this part just to add some cool effects to the video and fit with the alternative music. This was for our concept section of the video if we included it in the video. We wanted to create a mysterious feel to this part of the video so with Faye's shisha pen she blew smoke out in various styles and captured it with different shots and angles. It only took a short time period therefore it won't be too disappointing if we don't use the footage.

'now you see me, now you don't' which would be the narrative section of the video. We wanted to film someone younger and in this case it was lucky that Faye knows someone close to her family who was willing to take part. We saw a John Newman video and this is where we found our inspiration... The theme of the visuals was to link with the lyrics - 'gone to find a place for us to hide' - where Faye would be the mother and Georgia would be the child. Therefore both of them representing the thirteen and thirty five year old in the song. The filming didn't happen how we had pictured it to. It was a lot harder to find a suitable location and even though we had one planned, there were a lot more cars parked around and just didn't have such a good effect. However, we will keep all of the footage because it isn't too bad and once it's edited, it could look better.

Other artist website research

Merchandise

After researching into all different artists websites we found that majority of websites had the artists merchandise on the last couple of pages. The merchandise is available all year round which allows fans to buy it ready for if they go and see the artist in concert or just to collect because of their interest in the artist.
we looked at pricing and design in particular with the merchandise. We felt some of the pricing was unrealistic and varied a lot depending on the popularity of the artist, because of our artist not being as main stream and probably not as popular as someone like Beyonce we made our merchandise a lot more realistic and done a small collection instead of everything from t-shirts to pens etc... We settled with doing a woman's and mans t-shirt, a key ring and a tote bag.

woman's and men's t-shirt = £22.00
            tote bag = £10.95
             key ring = £1.25

We chose these prices because we feel they are reasonable because the design allows the customer to wear it whenever they want because it doesn't have anything obvious that makes it look like a t shirt you would wear only to a concert. The key ring is very reasonable price and allows everyone to be able to buy something if they want to. The tote bag is a bit more expensive because we noticed that the tote bags on other artists website are more highly priced than imagined so we initially just followed the trend on this one.

We created our design basically from our artist name. Her name is Lila Eden and so from that we thought garden of Eden, to then Adam and eve (now the name of our fans) and then the apple from Adam and eve.
With this we then googled apples - we didn't like the original
picture of just plain apples because it just would not have looked good on the merchandise. We then googled drawings of apples which came up with more
artistic photos and think it suited our artist a lot more. Once we had found the image we wanted to use we found pictures of plain key rings, t-shirts and bags then simply used word to layer them over the top of each other, i chose word to do this because word now allows you to change the color/shade of the image so for ours i used a more cream based to add an old effect to it. i chose to this because i think it matched with the fact that Adam and eve is a exxxxxxtremley old story and wanted to add the vintage effect which is popular with our target audience.

Instagram

Instagram is an online photo-sharing, video-sharing and social networking service that enables its users to take pictures and videos, apply digital filters to them, and share them on a variety of social networking services, such as Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr and Flickr.Instagram was created by Kevin Systrom and Mike Krieger and launched in October 2010. The service rapidly gained popularity, with over 100 million active users.Initially a purely photo-sharing service, Instagram incorporated video sharing in June 2013, allowing its users to record and share videos lasting for up to 15 seconds. The addition was seen by some in the technology media as Facebook's attempt at competing with Twitter's Vine video-sharing application

We created an instagram for our artist Lila Eden, we uploaded photos that showed our artist and gave her some personality. We edited photos using the different filters available from the app. We think making the instagram makes our artist more real as a lot of celebrities have instagram to keep their fans updated and be able to show their fans their interests and some of their personaltiy.

What's next

Current video and feedback

After our 2nd filming

This was our 2nd lot of filming. When we first picked the location we hadn't actually visited it and couldn't view it on Google maps as it was a rooftop. But the location was actually perfect for filming and looked so effective on camera. The footage we got for this section was for the ending of the song where the song becomes to evoke more emotion. We decided the rooftop for this section because its a lot more dramatic than our other setting and meant we could have a view, multiple settings + shots and the wind blowing in my hair to add to the effect. It all just worked so well and we were so happy with the footage once we had uploaded it.

We used a brick wall, storage box, rubbish heap, stairs and edge of the roof as all our settings we didn't not like any of the setting we used which was just so successful.
The problems we had with  the setting was that although the outfit looked really good it was really cold as you can imagine mid December outside in a mesh dress with no coat wasn't really very ideal but i'm glad i went through the cold because the footage we got was really good. The stairs that we filmed on were also very slippery so we really had to be careful of this but nothing went wrong at all just that it was cold!
some of the images we got from the filming come out really well! and could be something that we look at for using on our digipak or website.

filming 2

After our 1st filming

So this was our first day filming! I think both me and Faye can say it was actually really successful, definitely a lot down to how planned out we had everything, so when it came to filming we knew exactly what we was doing. We also had made sure we had left ourselves enough time to do everything that really helped!

We had planned to do a section where we film me singing from every single different angle. We filmed in front of a window in Faye's house which were decorated with thin white curtains and fairy lights so we had dim lighting and it made the lights really cute and effective! i really loved this part of footage we got and all the different angles worked really well even though it could have turned out bad

In our song there are a lot of clicks used and when planning we made sure that we would incorporate that and emphasis this in the first section. It worked well with our first sequence as a lot of our cuts are fast pace close ups to build up an artist profile so the clicks fit well with it. although clicks are usually associated with pop songs and girl/boy bands i still think that our clicks and the way we have kept them still matches the song. Whilst filming we also tried to the clicks in a lot of different ways and the most effective was changing the lighting so we had some clicks with very dim lighting and then some bright lighting using the dish light. I really like the out come and shows the light and darkness same as the song.

Before we started filming Faye had some things in her house which we tried out using to create some different effects and one of them that stuck were the wall projections!
We tried doing the projection onto my face at first but realized that actually just looked kind of sinister! the white projections was okay but still created a lot of shadowing on my face which didn't really work
Finally we just let the projection colors just change over a white wall and it looked really nice! so when it come to editing were hoping to have it as a quick cut and increase the speed of them!

Inspiration, look and feel

Me and faye sat down together during one of our lessons and after deciding that we knew we wanted a concept video that it would probably be quite handy if we actually had some concept ideas.

one of our ideas was for our 'cha cha' section of the song, although after practice filming and how much we liked the section we had done the lyrics are repeated quite a few times so we could use the section from practice filming mixed with a different concept. A concept that we came up with is that we could have two people (man and a woman) to be dancing the cha cha and have the shadows of them all moving to link in with the more mellow side of the song because dancing people more link with happiness or fast paced music so i think using the shadow of the couple make it more effective and fitting with the song.

Another idea we had was to test out some uv paint, it always looks really effective in photographs and on camera. You can try a lot of wacky things with this but  i think we would try and make it look artistic and pretty like in the photo to the left
The picture above left is something we were thinking of playing with for the lyric 'gone to find a place for us to hide' we came across the image when we were looking at make up ideas and it just looks really effective we would definitely use this as the style we would have so the crazy hair, bare shoulders and more delicate features drawn onto the hands.
Hand shadows were something we was also going to look into because again we just liked the effect it had and also played with the whole shadowing kind of effects we were going with. from the hand shadow puppets we thought we could have me on a plain white wall singing with all hand shadows moving around me which we think would look really good but could be quite unrealistic as would be quite hard creating the hand shadows without them being in the shot. But it may be something that we play around with a test.

The figure of the girl standing in front of the sun is something we definitely going to use, but will be doing by using our art dark room in school and a dish light so although it would not have the same effect of the sun but is the same concept idea.

This concept i really liked, the image is of ink dropping into water and this is the outcome of it. I saw it used in a music video and it just looked really effective.
Last concept we found was doing something with fairy lights and we knew we wanted to film in the forest so we ended up thinking of combining the two i really like the idea of this picture and could look really effective but could also be very dangerous as would be very easy for the tea lights to catch fire just to a tiny bit of dried leaves because of the risk of this we decided to leave this idea but we are definitely considering the whole fairy/tea lights concept.

Artist name

To start we knew we wanted a different and unusual name for our artist. So of course it all started with Google we looked through lists on Google answers and baby name websites. We even asked our teacher for some unusual names as most teachers have heard a lot of different names! finally after looking through all different combinations like:
Willow
Flora
Lila
Lyra
Cleo
Dotty
Lois
Bronte
Lily-Rose
Taya

We then chose the names we liked and tried adding some last names on there, we ended up three main ones:
1) Taya Bronte
2) Lila Eden
3) Elsie Cora

After narrowing it down we then chose some images we had taken when creating the look for our artist, created a collage of them and gained some feedback of what people thought most suited her image look and simply what name they like the best and why, this was the outcome:

Target audience

Artist Emotion

Facial expression research

facial expression is one or more motions or positions of the muscles beneath the skin of the face. These movements convey the emotional state of an individual to observers. Facial expressions are a form of nonverbal communication.
Facial expressions play a large part in setting the whole mood of a music video as if the artist or person acting within the music video doesn't match with the song it can unbalance the production as a whole. For example our song is sad so happy facial expression would make the video look almost like a joke along with the song. Sometimes this can be done on purpose to add effect but it almost always matched with whats happening in the scene.
Having good facial expressions makes a music video a lot more effective because if your artist is putting emotion and expression into the song and singing it make it more believable.
A good example of showing a lot of facial expressions and emotion into the song is beyonce's - broken hearted girl
Beyonce shows a lot of different emotions throughout this video which i think really sells the song to us an audience she is singing about how she doesn't want her heart broken by the man she loves. She's seen crying through the video but not too over expressive that it looks fake, she has a lot of expression on her face when she is passionately singing and is using body language to assist the strong singing. There are also parts of the song where she has slight smile as there are nice parts to lyrics about how and in which ways she loves him. Being able to change from the crying to the smiles shows the emotion throughout the video which i really like about it.
From this video i think it will help me when creating ours because it is an emotional song and Beyonce is singing about something with meaning the same as our song. So picking up on her hand gestures which fit with emotion on her face and how we could then incorporate them into our video.

Filming looks

Creating the look of our artist

For our first setting we wanted to create a look which was a bit different. For this we then googled things like; dramatic make-up and tumblr make up. From the searches we got make up styles such as this;

for our artist i feel its obviously too much going on and too bright for it too match out genre and things like that would be used in a more upbeat music video. Although they were off track from what we wanted we did still take something from them, because we realized how we need to make sure our make up does still stand out because on camera the make up may not come out as bright as we would want.

From searching tumblr makeup the search came up with a lot more images that gave us inspiration and that we could use in our video. These images gave us inspiration because we liked the use of glitter and the clean cut, edited kind of look (middle) from this we then kind of mixed our look around this. I really like the way that tumblr has more edgy but realistic photos as it gave us really good ideas and inspiration for our artist.

We used a basic make-up process.. foundation, blusher, etc... We found some sequins and thought we could place them on my face. We wasn't quite sure how to place them as we didn't want it to look silly or clown-like so we searched on Google for cool make-up using sequins... We found that our very own artist of our song 'Dillon' uses sequins for her make-up but in a more Gothic way.

For the hair, our inspiration was Miley Cyrus at the MTV music award the two top knots was how her was styled and a lot of artists wouldn't have risked this look as they aren't edgy enough to pull it off, were as Miley is pulled it off really well. Because of my hair being quite long we thought it would look really effective and needed something off my face too show off the sequins.

After we created the look we then went into the garden to show the whole outfit along with the makeup and hair. With the look we chose a lace white dress with black shorts and a glitter bra underneath the to a

dd to our artists look i think the outfit matched really well with the makeup and hair and would use this as edgy look for the video. We definitely accomplished what we wanted with this look for it to look edgy and something different too our look instead of them all being dark and mysterious!

The next look we tried we wanted to make our artist look like she had gone through a rough time and had been crying. To create this we used water to smudge my make up and some black paint to make it look more realistic. I think we successfully made the eye make up look like i had been crying a lot. We got the idea to do this from beyonce's music video 'why don't you love me' looking at the look of our artist and Beyonce i think we achieved the crying effect well. With this makeup we used a grey prom dress as we feel it matched the look overall as the grey added to the sombre mood of the look.

We also tried a third look which was very unsuccessful we tried too go for another edgy look but more focusing on the hair so we used to 2 bunches and then put a few hairbands everyone couple of  inches but it just really didn't look how we was expecting it too. With the hair we also followed a tutorial on how to create the twiggy look but this also went very wrong and just wasn't effective at all it just looked sort of funny.
