Practice filming

For our practice filming we filmed in a public park, called south weald as we felt the setting suited our song well and shots would look effective here. Before we began our filming we tried out different make up and hair styles, This look was what we originally had matched with this scene and we think it works well.

Practice filming went well and although we had planned a lot of shots because of previously visiting the setting and knowing certain features that were already there, such as the steps. We also gained a lot of shots we hadn't planned but feel that were most effective, like the weaving in and out of the trees with editing it made the shot something that we hadn't even originally  thought of and really effective.

For the filming we had me with bare feet this was added to our risk assessment because of it being a public place we wouldn't know what could be on the floor and could be glass around. We think the barefoot went really well with the ambiance of the video and suited our artist.

Problems that we occurred were things such as, it being so cold that it made filming quite difficult because of me being in just a dress i got very cold and couldn't film for hours like would have been needed. We also had to be aware of the public because although we had made sure we were there early and on a weekday to avoid a lot of people there was still people around and walking through and wanting to walk down/ up the stairs we were filming on, but in the end we got there. We had problems with the memory and charge on the camera because there was not a lot of room on the SD card but we deleted some unneeded footage which aloud us to film although the camera did begin the run out of charge but i feel we learnt from this to make sure that the camera is always fully charged before we leave and to make sure we have enough memory!

Things that went well with our filming was finding all the different places to film that we didn't know where there. I think the steps were our best setting through the filming with running i think it looks very effective. The practice filming showed us how important it was that we needed to film every section of the song even if we weren't planning to use it because when we came round to editing it we had shots that would have looked effective in certain places but because i had not lip synced them we had to use them in other places that were not so effective.

If anything i think our practice filming was the most help out of any of our tasks we completed for when filming because it showed how we worked as a group and gave us experience of what we need to do when we go to film our real thing.

Here are some images from our day of  filming. The first picture shows how perfect the day was for our filming, there was natural sunlight but still an edge of coldness to the sky. The third picture is where we done a main chunk of lip syncing filming it really matched the whole forest setting and was really handy it was in  the middle of all the trees  as it then made it look old, mossy and had trees in the background.

Feedback we gained from the practice filming is obviously that i needed to work on learning the words off by heart so that i don't muck up on some of the sections. Majority of people commented on how effective the straight cuts we had used were and will be something we will look into when it comes to real filming. A section that all of our people feeding back commented on was the 'cha cha cha' section. When we first filmed that section we were quite unsure on it and how it would work because as we were filming it just looked quite boring just me walking in and out of trees but once it came to editing and Faye added effects of ghosting and a cross dissolve it was really effective! and was everyone's favorite part.

Wednesday 4th September

This was our first day back after half term so was introduced to our new criteria of creating a music video. To start we created a presentation of our favourite song when we were young, to mid-teens and our current; this was titled 'what music means to me'.

Thursday 5th September
We spent the lesson presenting our 'what music means to me' to the class and Miss Shuttle, because of us all being from the same age groups it was interesting to see who listened to what style of music and why they had chosen their songs.

Friday 6th September
For our prelim task we needed to finish editing, Sydney and Faye took on the role of this as not everyone could have a go but others contributed to the music video in other ways and everyone worked well together and the end product was successful.

Monday 9th September 
This lesson Miss Shuttle set us the task of analysing a music video from the ages I was given; The Human League – Don’t you want me baby. Our task was to analyse the video and compare it to a modern video of our choice.

Tuesday 10th September 
To help us with analysing music videos we were introduced to the first theory, mulvey's. We researched into what the theory was and examples of where they have been used.

Wednesday 11th September 
To help us with creating our own artist we looked at our favorite or popular artist and how they had changed through the years and their image as a whole, how successful/ unsuccessful they were or still are.

Friday 13th September 
The Britney video we made as class is all completed and exported into you tube so was available to put onto our blog. Our task was to upload it to our blog and analyse what went well, what we learnt and what we would do differently if we were to re-do it.

Wednesday 18th September 
This Lesson we agreed as a class that we would be finishing off work as we all had small parts of all the tasks that had been set needed to be finished.

Thursday 19th September
This day we had to look at the history of music, we created prezi's or power points to present our work and findings.

Friday 20th September
We  were set the task of looking at a 'star' (artist) of our choice and looking at their profile, what makes them them and why they are popular.

Monday 23rd September 
research a song, pick one and create presentation on it for the class and to miss too include why we chose it what we like about it where we found it little bit about initial ideas if there was any.

Tuesday 24th September 
showing our presentations to the class, feedback, filling out small sheets.

Wednesday 25th September
going through feedback we gained from showing the class, expanding on the ides given to us from the class and created power point of images that inspired and influenced us

no lesson because of half day

Thursday 3rd October 
Because of missing a lesson because of visiting universities me and Faye went through with miss what we had missed missed from our previous lesson. We were also given our treatment sheet, which included a list of things we needed to complete before we begin filming.

Friday 4th October
Faye was absent for this lesson,  so i decided to then watch some music videos to find some inspiration of things that look effective on camera and could use in our video. I was looking for settings that matched our genre of song and if there were any around the same area as us. I think this was helpful because then when Faye came in the next day i was able to talk about some of the ideas i had found and would help us in our planning further down the line.

Monday 7th October
As a pair me and Faye said we would use this hour to finally finish off last bits of class set work and then decided  we would not do any more of that work in lessons would save it for frees and after school instead and start to really focus on the treatment treatment list.

Tuesday 8th October
We looked at treatment sheet, planned when,where and how we were going to complete the tasks from the sheet. Created a questionnaire for our target audience as we would be filming the responses in a couple lessons time and was handy to have done already.

Wednesday 9th October
carried on with treatment, we were introduced to the storyboard sheet and set deadlines of October half term which is the 25th

Friday 11th October
didn't really do any  work that could be recorded but discussed our ideas together and with miss shuttle in a lot more detail and gained some new ideas and set for some work to be done for next lesson to get us back on track

further editing adding in transitions and effects to the footage, then uploaded to you-tube. Faye and i then discussed what we liked and didn't like so much about the filming and how we could use some of the ideas in our real filming.

looked over all our ideas as we really needed to start filming soon, realized concept wasn't the way to go. i found the video of run by Joel compass showed to Faye and we really like the more dark kind of side and playing with shadows

Tuesday 3rd December
Using this lesson to prepare for filming as we would be filming tomorrow! so because we had enough time we used it to decide on final details of; costumes, timings and final shots

Wednesday 4th December 
This was our first day of filming! finally! everything went to plan and was happy with the footage we gained

Thursday 5th December 
Start of the editing process, Faye was the one that actually sat at the computer and was mainly playing around with it i was watching and learning, adding input on what we agreed look good and what didn't

Friday 6th December
We finished editing today and this took up most of the lesson, we had a spare ten minutes at the end to discuss what we wanted to film next so for our next lesson we could come in and begin planning for it

Monday 9th December 
Me and Faye done some research over the weekend to come in today and feedback on what we had found this lesson was really productive and we both bought quite a few ideas to the video

Tuesday 10th December
Some more filming today! this time on a rooftop so we took extra care with all our equipment and were able to get a large chunk for our ending of the video

Wednesday 11th December
Editing again, uploading our next chunk, this time it was a lot more difficult for Faye as she had to add the chunks together with our other footage and add more edits but it was successful in the end

Thursday 12th December 
We decided as a pair that we both definitely needed to catch up on some written work so Faye worked on her production diary where as i worked on some of my posts missing from my blog

Friday 13th December
No lesson due to whole school Christmas assembly

Tuesday 7th January 
This was our first lesson back after our break so we went over where we were up to with Miss Shuttle and created a to do list of everything we needed to complete before the deadline

Wednesday 8th January 
We were introduced to the digipak this lesson and how we would be creating one, we were shown examples of the year before. We then began research on artists similar to ours

Thursday 16th January 
Began our digipak today, we had collected images from when we were filming which we could possibly use

Friday 17th January 
We knew we needed to create merchandise for our artist so this lesson me and Faye sat down and began designing

Today we filmed and finished off our last little bits, once we were finished filming we came back to school and uploaded the footage and began editing

We started our evaluation today and decided between each other who would be taking which two

Practice Shots

For one of our lessons we decided to go and do some practice shots, we just walked around school seeing what angles looked most effective on camera and just playing around. From this i think found some shots that we maybe wouldst have thought of when filming and now have something to refer back to.

Lip Syncing Practise

During one of lessons we decided it would be beneficial to practice lip syncing especially seeing as we had decided that one of us would be the artist. It was good to see who suited the voice and image of the song out of the both of us because although Faye was a lot more confident and added more to performance we felt the image suited me better because of the genre of song.

After doing the lip syncing exercise we felt learnt a lot such as; how important it is to pronounce the words properly and how important it is to come in at the right time otherwise it make editing more difficult as you may not have the words you want for a certain part of the song because you may not have pronounced them properly when filming.

This task helped us realize how important and effective the lip syncing is in a music video, if its out of time it can make it look very unprofessional because it looks like an artist you don't know your song and that your not comfortable
